The Christian's REAL Identity

who am i.jpg

According to the Book of Genesis, God made a body out of dust and breathed divine breath (a Soul) into it. The God created being was one of love, joy, peace, patience, etc. As a result of Adam & Eve's fall in the garden, their Soul and future Souls were placed under the influence of the tempter, or evil one, to form what scripture calls the 'old man self or flesh (pride, greed, wrath, envy, lust, gluttony , and sloth). Then when Jesus came, those followers of His who made a conscious decision to believe by an act of faith in 'The Word', 'The Truth', and were baptized in the Holy Spirit, had their Souls set free from the 'old man/flesh self' and its domination. Their Souls were now under the dominion of Jesus, and as scripture says, formed a 'new man/Spirit self'. They reverted back to their original 'Genesis' creation days: beings of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, etc. In other words: 'GOD IS OUR BEING'

But we ask........why does the body continue to do things we wish it wouldn't do? The Apostle Paul wrote about this and appeared to be quite frustrated. He went on to say, as a believer in Jesus Christ, it wasn't him, 'new man self', that did it. It was the remnants of the 'old man self' that did it.  He was l i b e r a t e d.  The Truth had set him free. Be he cautioned.......this was not an excuse for him to intentionally engage in or believe in the sins of the old man/flesh self (pride, greed, wrath, envy, lust, gluttony , and sloth) that were at times produced by the remnants of old man/flesh self. But to daily call upon the power of the most Holy Trinity within him, to help him with the renewing of his mind and in becoming more like God each day.

Scripture Truths about the old man and new man

(Ephesians 4:20-24)

"You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness".

(2Corinthians 5:17)

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come, the old is gone, the new is here"

(Colossians 3:10)

"Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator"

(Romans 6:6-7)

For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.
